Honey is popping up in more foods and alcohol, too.
Honey, on our list of 100 Things to Watch in 2012, has been popping up not only in more foods but in alcohol too. Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, launched in 2011, “has taken the industry by storm,” Forbes recently reported; earlier this year Jim Beam introduced a Red Stag Honey Tea flavor. And the age-old drink mead, made from fermented honey, is enjoying a “renaissance,” as The New York Times has noted. Meanwhile, honey’s popularity is fueling the practice of beekeeping, a trend some hotels are adopting. The Waldorf-Astoria and the Intercontinental in New York are among those installing hives on their rooftops, while the Mandarin Oriental in Paris intends to give honey pots to guests once its bees are up and running, according to the AP.
